Tire-burning protests persisted until 7:30pm at the college gate

Update : 25 Dec 2024, 10:35 PM

The announcement of the new convening committee of Dhaka College unit of Chhatra Dal sparked protests with tire burning and multiple cocktail explosions, leading to a road blockade in front of the college.

This resulted in severe traffic congestion and panic in the area.

It is reported that the deprived members plan to continue their protests on Thursday as well.

Until 7:30pm on Wednesday, the deprived members continued their protest by burning tires at the main gate of the college.

The blockade led to a complete halt of traffic on a one-way road throughout the day, causing intense traffic jams, which gradually eased later.

Earlier in the afternoon, the deprived leaders and activists blocked the Mirpur Road and burned effigies of the central president of Chhatra Dal, Mohammad Rakibul Islam Rakib, and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.

In the evening, the officer-in-charge of New Market police station, Mohsin Uddin, told Samakal that the protesters left but returned to block the road again.

He mentioned that the situation was ongoing and that the police were present to maintain caution and control the situation.
