The Director General (Prevention) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Md Akhtar Hossain, has assured that the commission will take prompt legal action against government officials and employees involved in corruption and irregularities.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday afternoon, he talked about ACC's commitment to addressing specific allegations.
He said: "Corrupt officials will not be spared. According to statements from organizations such as Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and other agencies, as well as discussions in the media, there have been ongoing debates regarding the ACC's lack of action against the bureaucracy. In this context, the Commission has decided that if specific and substantiated allegations against any officer or employee of the bureaucracy are filed with the Commission or brought to its attention, the Commission will swiftly take appropriate legal action on the matter."
Akhtar Hossain further said: "There is no scope for showing any favor towards a particular cadre or individual regarding corruption. The Commission wants to send this message to all officials and employees of the Republic. Whoever engages in corruption, there will be no leniency."
