For the first time, on the occasion of the Great Victory Day, Victory Fairs will be held across all districts and upazilas, including Dhaka.
On Monday, the fair in the capital will take place at the Dhaka District Commissioner’s office premises on Johnson Road in Puran Dhaka.
Preparations are in their final stages, and 22 stalls have already been set up.
Beautification work is ongoing around the district commissioner’s office.
A visit to the venue on Sunday revealed that 22 government institutions have set up stalls for the Victory Fair.
The first stall is dedicated to freedom fighters and is named "Come, Hear the Stories of Liberation War."
The second and third stalls have been allocated to the Dhaka District Commissioner’s office’s Land Acquisition and Revenue sections.
Other participating organizations include the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), SME Foundation, National Foundation for the Development of the Disabled, Department of Agricultural Extension, Joyeeta Foundation, Islamic Foundation, Dhaka Central Jail, Department of Women Affairs, Bangladesh Rural Development Board, and the Bangladesh Bamboo and Cane Industries.
These institutions will showcase their products at the fair, which will run throughout the day.
The district commissioner’s office said that the primary goal is exhibition rather than sales.
Many visitors were seen exploring the stalls on Sunday to learn about the products that will be displayed at the fair.
Some also came to inquire about the possibility of setting up additional stalls.
Officials from the SME Foundation and other government offices mentioned that they had requested more stalls but were unable to get them due to space constraints.
The Dhaka District Commissioner’s office has announced additional programs for Victory Day, including an event honoring freedom fighters and a discussion meeting.
A total of 130 freedom fighters will be honored, with the event starting at 11am on Monday.
Each freedom fighter will receive a prize bond as a gift.
The Victory Fair will begin earlier at 10:30am.
Fuara Khatun, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Dhaka, told Prothom Alo that the initial plan was to hold the fair in front of the Shilpakala Academy.
However, due to various practical challenges, it had to be moved to the district commissioner’s office premises.
The one-day fair will focus more on exhibitions than sales.
Preparations have been made to accommodate visitors.
