The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed that no fatalities occurred during the clash between students from Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shahid Suhrawardy College, who attacked and vandalized Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) in Jatrabari, Dhaka on Monday.

However, DMRC authorities claimed that three of their students were killed in the incident.

The DMP has urged the public to refrain from spreading false information regarding these alleged deaths.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Police Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department, provided this information in a statement on Monday evening.

Earlier, around 2:30pm, Ashraf Sameer, Managing Director of DMRC, issued a statement asserting that three students had been killed, a claim he later reiterated to BBC Bangla.

At least 20 individuals sustained injuries as students from Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shahid Suhrawardy College initiated the attack on DMRC.

Students from the first two colleges gathered in front of Bahadur Shah Park armed with sticks starting at 10am. They later moved towards Ray Saheb Bazar, joining peers from other colleges.

The protest was part of a “Mega Monday” program responding to attacks and vandalism allegedly perpetrated by DMRC students during their “Super Sunday” event the previous day.
