The protest was organized as part of a 'Mega Monday' program in response to previous attacks by DMRC students during their 'Super Sunday' event

At least 20 people sustained injuries as students from Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shahid Suhrawardy College on Monday launched an attack on and vandalized Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) in Jatrabari, Dhaka.

Students from the first two colleges gathered in front of Bahadur Shah Park in Dhaka armed with sticks starting at 10am. Sometime later, they moved towards the Ray Saheb Bazar area, joining other students from other colleges.

This protest followed a call for a "Mega Monday" program against attacks and vandalism on their campuses the previous day allegedly carried out by DMRC students during their "Super Sunday" event.

In line with the protest plan, students from Kabi Nazrul Government College began gathering at the college's main gate earlier in the morning.

At about 12:30pm, some enraged students advanced towards DMRC, chanting slogans, and carried out attacks and vandalism inside the premises.

Meanwhile, DMRC students were seen taking positions across the street.

Students from Suhrawardy College claimed that a coalition of colleges in the capital led by DMRC students had attacked and vandalized Kabi Nazrul Government College and Suhrawardy College, causing significant damage to their institutions.

Prof Muhammad Habibur Rahman, principal of Kabi Nazrul Government College, urged the protesting students to remain calm.

Using a megaphone, he addressed them, saying: “Stay calm, we are with you. Intruders were involved in yesterday’s incident, and it seems they are here again today.”

Those responsible for the attacks on Kabi Nazrul Government College and Suhrawardy College would be identified and brought to justice, he assured the protesters.
