Newly appointed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzad Ali has asked police officials to work with devotion and sincerity to keep Dhaka safe by any means.
“Nearly two crore people live in Dhaka city. They must be kept safe by any means. We have no option to step back from the responsibilities,” he said.
DMP commissioner was addressing the police officers of various ranks of DMP at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium, Rajarbagh Police Lines on Saturday.
“We want to provide the best services to the citizens in any situation. We all have to be good people and good police officers. There is no alternative to being a good person. And it is only possible for a good police officer to provide good services to the people,” he said.
Mentioning that Bangladesh Police is the most vibrant organization of the government, he said a vested group put police in confrontation with people in their own interests.
“People are not our enemies and we do not want to go against the people. We want to work together with the people,” he said.
The DMP chief said all have to perform their duties with the utmost sincerity and professionalism.
Urging all police officers to work in a team, he said all members of the team have to create a holy relationship with each other. In need, a member will always stand beside others,” he hoped.
The new DMP Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the officers and heard their different problems. He also gave necessary directives to resolve those issues.
At the outset of the meeting, the DMP officers observed a minute silence in memory of all martyrs of the July-August mass uprising.
Later, prayers were also offered for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs and the speedy recovery of the injured.
