Govt Titumir College students blocked the railway line in Mohakhali on Monday morning demanding university status for their institution, disrupting train movement.
According to witnesses, the Upakul Express train came to a halt as students blocked the tracks. When the train attempted to move forward despite the obstruction, students began throwing stones at it.
Several passengers were reported injured, and images of the wounded passengers quickly spread on social media.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said additional forces had been deployed in the Mohakhali area to prevent any untoward incidents.
The police were in discussions with the students and urging them to clear the railway and roads, he added.
