Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolan, has said since Sheikh Hasina's departure, people are firmly committed to achieving something that has not happened either after 1971 or after 1990 — the complete dismantling of the fascist regime, asserting that "we are now in our desired Bangladesh from this perspective.
Saki was speaking at the third central council of Bangladesh Garment Workers' Solidarity in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh on Friday.
Speakers at the program highlighted that the primary strength of the people's movement in July was the working class.
They said that the struggle to establish workers' dignity is not merely a workers' movement but a social and cultural movement.
Zonayed Saki emphasized the need to ensure living wages for all and advocated for a new political arrangement.
He stressed that while fair elections are necessary for democracy, a proper political framework, including democratic labour laws, must first be established.
He added that if an employer fails to pay wages due to incompetence, the government must take responsibility.
Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua criticized the structural negligence of the previous Awami League government, citing the tragedies of Rana Plaza and Tazreen Fashions as examples.
He argued that a democratic, worker-friendly law is essential and called for the abolition of the Industrial Police, labelling it as an "enforcer" for employers.
