A youth has been beaten to death by a mob in Dhaka's Sabujbagh area.
The incident occurred in the Baikdia area on Wednesday afternoon.
The youth was identified as Ramzan, 35, Sabujbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yasin Ali confirmed the matter to reporters.
He said that at around 4:45pm, residents detained Ramzan and subjected him to a mob beating, resulting in his death at the scene.
According to police and local sources, Ramzan had been arrested a few months ago with a firearm.
After the government’s downfall on August 5, he was released on bail.
Ramzan faced around a dozen cases, including charges of illegal weapons, drugs, and robbery.
He was active in the areas of Khilgaon, Basabo, Sabujbagh, Mugda, and Madartek.
On Wednesday afternoon, as he entered the area, local residents caught and assaulted him.
The OC reported that a police team visited the scene.
Ramzan’s body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
