Members of Rapid Action Battalion-2 (RAB) detained eight individuals along with weapons early Tuesday during a drive in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (media) Shihab Karim confirmed the matter on Tuesday morning.
The detainees are Md Tamim, Md Naim, Md Hasan, Md Rakib, Md Liton, Md Russell, Md Limon, and Md Jubayer.
Locally-made sharp weapons, including swords, knives, and machetes, were seized from them at the time of the detention.
Efforts are ongoing to tackle organized crime in the area. “We acted on a tip-off, and our teams were able to disrupt their plans and prevent any potential attacks on innocent citizens,” said the official.
The detainees have been handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
