Thousands of garment workers from eight factories in the capital’s Kachukhet area, Mirpur, protested on Monday morning by blocking roads to demand their unpaid salaries.
The protest began around 8:30am and continued until 10:30am on Monday, involving around 10,000 workers.
The demonstration caused a significant traffic jam, extending from Mirpur 14 to Kachukhet.
The protesting workers said that their salaries have been withheld for three months, starting after August 5, due to the changing situation in the country. They declared that they will continue striking until their dues are cleared.
Meanwhile, as offices resumed following a four-day holiday for Durga Puja, commuters in the area, including office-goers, faced considerable disruption due to the road blockade.
