NTV journalist Shimanto Khokon found dead at home

Police recovered his body on Tuesday

NTV News Editor Shimanto Khokon has been found dead at his residence in the capital’s Chamelibagh.

Police recovered his body on Tuesday afternoon, with preliminary reports suggesting suicide.

Paltan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasirul Amin said: "We suspect it to be a case of suicide, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy."

Family members said Khokon had been suffering from various health issues and was reportedly distressed over rumours of losing his job. These issues had reportedly been troubling him for some time.

According to police, Khokon's room had been locked since the morning. When family members unlocked the door to the room around 1:30pm, they found him hanging from a ceiling fan. Police were notified, and his body was recovered around 3:30pm.

Originally from Damitha union in Tarail upazila, Kishoreganj, Shimanto Khokon is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. He had been residing with his family in Chamelibagh.

NTV Head of News Fakrul Alam expressed his sorrow, saying: "We are on our way to his residence after hearing the tragic news."

He also mentioned that Khokon had been suffering from mental distress due to personal issues.

Khokon was a former general secretary of the Kishoreganj Journalists' Forum in Dhaka. He also had a background in entertainment journalism earlier in his career.
