The ongoing movement demanding an increase in the age limit for government jobs to 35 years has been suspended.
The announcement was made by one of the coordinators of the movement, Rasel Al Mahmud, on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, job seekers staged a sit-in protest in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh, demanding the age limit increase.
Russell said: “We have been advocating for raising the age limit for government jobs to 35 for a long time. In this context, we held a grand rally here yesterday and started our sit-in program at Shahbagh from 1pm."
“When our delegation met with the law adviser, we received a written assurance through his PS. However, as our primary demand was not met, we issued an ultimatum and declared another program today,” he added.
He said: “Considering all factors, we are suspending and concluding our program. We will announce our next steps later.”
On Saturday from 1pm to 8:45pm, protesters blocked the Shahbagh intersection demanding an increase in the age limit.
A delegation met with the law adviser at 6:30pm, who assured that a non-discriminatory committee would be formed within seven to ten days to address the issue, with the primary task of finding a reasonable solution to the age limit demand.
The delegation relayed this information to the media after returning from the legal adviser's office.
