The father of a student injured during a recent clash between anti-discrimination students and Ansar members in front of the Secretariat has died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Shahin Howladar, 45, passed away in the ICU while undergoing treatment at 7:30am on Wednesday, according to Md Faruq, inspector in charge of the DMCH police outpost.
Shahin's son, Hasan Ahmed Vishal, a higher secondary student at Kabi Nazrul Government College, recounted the events: "On September 25, I went to the Secretariat with the students after working at the TSC relief site of Dhaka University. My father, who drives a rent-a-car and usually stays in Paltan for work, came to pick me up when he heard I was in front of the Secretariat. He got caught in the clash and was injured by the Ansar members. He was later admitted to DMCH."
Shahin Howladar hailed from Khand village in Dakshin Bazikar, Mongla upazila of Bagerhat district. He had been living with his family in the Khilgaon area. He is survived by his two sons and a daughter.
Inspector Md Faruq also mentioned that Shahin's body has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
