Protest Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah has urged that those demanding bribes or special privileges under the guise of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement should be handed over to the police.
He said this while talking to reporters after visiting the injured at Kurmitola hospital in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Another Coordinator Sarjis Alam, and DGHS Additional Director General Prof Dr Ahmedul Kabir were also present.
Hasnat Abdullah said: "We have caught a group with a banner in the name of coordinators and co-coordinators involved in fund collection, and we caught them red-handed with Tk1,80,000. We want to clarify that since we started our movement on June 5, we have not been involved in any financial transactions. If we need any financial assistance, it will be communicated through the relevant ministry."
He added: "Since yesterday (Friday), we have visited various hospitals in the capital to see the injured. Today (Saturday), from our experience at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, I must say that Rafah Camp of Palestine exists in Bangladesh, and it is DMCH. Our healthcare system is so shattered that there is no comparison between Palestine and DMCH.
“The previous government effectively conducted the funerals in our health sector. To revitalize this fragile health sector, we need to make inclusive decisions."
He added: "Today (Saturday), we met with the health department officials and the director of DMCH. They assured us that without red tape, political dominance, policy manipulation, autocratic tendencies, or tender manipulation, they can transform this sector into a public-oriented one within 90 days."
Hasnat Abdullah further said: "We have seen that the nuisance of so-called coordinators and co-coordinators is increasing. Offering too many services and facilities is disrupting the normal operations of the hospitals. Therefore, a separate unit has been established for treating the injured, where no money will be charged."
