Students at Jagannath University have issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding the resignation of several top university officials, including Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sadeka Halim, Registrar Prof Dr Aynul Islam, the Proctorial Body, and Hall Provosts.

The deadline for their resignation is set for 3pm on Monday.

The ultimatum follows a protest march that began at 2:30pm on Sunday from the university’s central auditorium to the administrative building.

The students, who have expressed significant frustration, are calling for the immediate resignation of the vice-chancellor and other administrative officials aligned with the Awami League.

They asserted that similar resignations have occurred at other universities under comparable circumstances and questioned the delay in their institution.

In their statement, the students indicated a preparedness to escalate their actions if their demands are not met.

They also suggested the possibility of external influences obstructing the resignation process and vowed to confront any such interference.

Swarna Akhter Riya, a coordinator of the anti-discrimination movement, emphasized the seriousness of their ultimatum, said: “We are setting a deadline for the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Dr Sadeka Halim, Registrar Professor Dr Aynul Islam, Hall Provost Professor Dipika Rani, Proctor Prof Jahangir Hossain, and the entire Proctorial Body. If they do not resign by this time, we will escalate our actions.”
