Following the violence surrounding the quota reform movement and Sheikh Hasina's resignation as Prime Minister and subsequent departure from the country, police installations across Bangladesh have come under attack.
Many police personnel have been killed or injured by miscreants. As a result, officers have abandoned police stations in Dhaka due to security concerns.
In response to these attacks, the "Police Odhoston Kormochari Songothon (Subordinate Police Reform Platform)" and the "Bangladesh Police Service Association" have announced an indefinite strike starting Tuesday.
This has led to a rise in open robbery and looting in various parts of the country, including the capital.
On Tuesday night, incidents of robbery were reported in Dhaka Udyan, Sat Masjid Housing, and the 40 Feet areas of Mohammadpur.
Residents reported that around midnight on Wednesday, a group of teenagers armed with sharp weapons roamed the streets on a pick-up van, committing robbery and looting.
The news quickly spread on social media, prompting residents, including students, to take to the streets and stand guard at various crossroads. Announcements were also made over local mosque loudspeakers warning about the robbers.
Upon receiving the information, an army team raided the Mohammadpur area around 3am, detaining 20-25 members of the juvenile gang.
Locals called for a swift restoration of law and order amid this unstable situation.
