Update : 02 Aug 2024, 11:28 PM

Residents of Mirpur DOHS in the capital organized a mass march and rally in solidarity with the ongoing student movement.

Hundreds participated in the rally despite heavy rain on Friday afternoon, raising slogans demanding justice for the killing of over 200 people, including students.

Banners at the march read, "Calling retired military officers, JCOs, and all other ranks in the ongoing situation."

Mirpur DOHS, primarily inhabited by retired armed forces members, saw significant participation from both retired members and their families, with a notable presence of women in the procession.

Various slogans were chanted demanding justice for the deaths.

Witnesses reported that the procession began around 5pm, circling the entire Mirpur DOHS area. Many residents joined from different houses, and the rally concluded in front of the DOHS Cultural Centre. During the rally, some former high-ranking army personnel spoke in support of the ongoing movement.

The rally also protested the attack on Mirpur DOHS by the Chhatra League and the "Helmet Bahini", aided by the police, on July 18 in search of students.
