Helicopter patrols in Dhaka skies increase, RAB explains reason

RAB says no gunfire were used from its helicopters during protests

Update : 29 Jul 2024, 02:46 PM

During the recent quota movement, RAB helicopters were continuously patrolling Dhaka from the sky day and night.

As the situation calmed, these patrols decreased.

However, on Monday, the Rapid Action Battalion’s helicopters were again noticeable over Dhaka.

Regarding this, the director of RAB's Media Wing, Lt Col Munim Ferdous, said: “The helicopters are flying over the capital as part of regular patrols and surveillance. Additionally, these flights also serve as part of training exercises.”

In a statement sent to the media on Thursday, RAB claimed that no gunfire or firearms were used from the helicopters. Instead, to facilitate the movement of law enforcement and to quickly reach incidents to prevent damage to public property and riots, RAB helicopters deployed tear gas shells and sound grenades to disperse blockers on the streets.

Furthermore, RAB has recorded video footage of all activities conducted by their helicopters, including patrols and rescues.

These videos have been shared on various social media platforms, RAB's website, and various media outlets.
