As heavy rains submerged streets in various parts of Dhaka on Friday, causing numerous vehicles to break down and resulting in significant traffic jams, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police urged residents to allocate extra travel time due to the disruptions.
In a statement, the DMP said due to the rain, traffic congestion had been reported in different parts of the capital, including Fakirapool, Naya Paltan, Shantinagar, Malibagh Mor, Arambagh, Pragati Sarani, Dhanmondi 27, Bangshal, Mirpur Rokeya Sarani, Sayedabad Bus Terminal, Toyenbee Circular Road, Elephant Road, Matsya Bhaban, Kawran Bazar, Bijoy Sarani and Mirpur Mazar Road.
In such circumstances, the DMP advised the public to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel due to the adverse conditions.
The downpour began early in the morning at around 6am. By midday, most streets and alleys were inundated, exacerbating the daily struggles of workers, day labourers and small traders.
