Saudia airline cabin crew detained with 2kg of gold from Dhaka airport

  • Detainee, gold in customs’ custody
  • Surveillance increased to prevent smuggling at airport

A member of the cabin crew aboard a Saudia airline flight has been detained with 2kg of gold at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Based on the information of National Security Intelligence (NSI), the cabin crew of the airline Rokeya Khatun who arrived on Saudia airline flight was searched by the customs authorities and 11 gold bars, six gold bangles, and one gold chain were recovered, amounting to 1,979 grams of gold.

Customs and Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) officials along with the responsible officials of various organizations were present during the rescue operation.

The detained crew along with the recovered gold are currently in customs’ custody.

The National Security Intelligence Agency (NSI), along with other agencies, has increased its intelligence surveillance to prevent smuggling at the airport.
