4 arrested for daylight robbery in Dhanmondi

Police emphasize installing CCTV cameras in residential areas

Police have arrested four individuals involved in an armed robbery that took place in broad daylight in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

The arrestees are identified as Ali, Imon, Akash, and Tarek.

Muhammad Ashraf Hossain, deputy commissioner (DC) of Ramna division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said this during a press briefing at his office on New Circular Road in Ramna to address the incident on Monday morning.

DC Ashraf Hossain said: “On Saturday, a private sector employee was on his way to his office in Dhanmondi via Satmasjid Road as usual. At around 8:50am, when he reached the northern sidewalk adjacent to Abahani Field, four youths suddenly attacked him, punching and kicking him to the ground. They then held a sharp weapon against his throat, snatched his mobile phone and wallet, and fled the scene in an auto-rickshaw. Based on the victim's complaint, a case was filed at Dhanmondi police station."

DC Ashraf further said that after the case was filed, police reviewed CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas to identify the culprits. Later, acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid and, within 24 hours, arrested four individuals involved in the incident. A sharp weapon used in the robbery, along with the stolen mobile phone and wallet, were recovered from the arrestees.

During the press briefing, the police official emphasized installing CCTV cameras in residential areas.
