Youth dies after being beaten, thrown from building over theft allegation in Gulshan

  • 'Building owner beat him, tied his hands and threw him from ninth floor'
  • Rescued in critical condition and taken to DMCH

A youth has died after being beaten up and thrown down from a building on suspicion of being a thief in the Narda area of ​​Dhaka’s Gulshan.

Shakil, 26, died at around 11pm on Saturday at a private hospital while undergoing treatment.

DMP Gulshan police station Inspector (Investigation) Sheikh Shahanur Rahman said the police have arrested one person in this connection.

Shakil, hailing from Netrokona, lived in a rented house with his family in the Sarkar Bari area. He was the father of a three-year-old son.

The younger brother of the deceased, Hridoy Mia, said Shakil was a mason by profession. He worked at an under-construction building in the Narda area. He sold old electrical cables or old tools from there.

For this, on Thursday night, the people of the building owner beat him up, tied his hands and threw him down from the building, he added.

Inspector Shahanur said the young man was injured after falling from the ninth floor of the building. He was rescued in critical condition and taken to a local hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

“His relatives later took him to a private hospital as he needed to be in an ICU. He died there. The body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem,” he added.

He also said a case had been filed in this incident.

The number one accused in the case, Imran Hossain Shuvo, the son of the owner of the house, has been arrested. Efforts are underway to arrest the rest.
