At least 16 shops were burnt in a devastating fire at Uttara sector-11 kitchen market in the early hours of Tuesday.
Fire Service Media officer Talha Bin Jashim confirmed the incident, reports BSS.
He said: “On information, firemen rushed to the spot and controlled the flame... But, 16 shops were burnt before extinguishing the fire.
“The firefighters put the blaze under control within 40 minutes,” the official said.
He added that nine fire fighting units from Uttara, Tongi, Kurmitola, and Pallabi fire stations were engaged in dousing the fire.
Fire destroyed a considerable amount of goods but the extent of loss is yet to be ascertained, said Rozina Akhter, duty officer of Fire Services and Civil Defense Headquarters.
