The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has been conducting operations against illegal encroachments and cleaning Mohammadpur canals in the capital for the third consecutive day.

The evacuation operation commenced on Sunday morning and continued until the afternoon.

During this ongoing operation, which began on Friday, six buildings, including a 10-storey building under construction, have been demolished so far.

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam visited the evacuation operation in the afternoon.

On the third day of the operation, a one-story tin shed house and another two-story building were demolished, along with the ongoing work to demolish a 10-story building under construction on the canal's border.

Additionally, canal cleaning is being performed, ensuring the restoration of water flow in canals that had turned into piles of dirt.

Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said during the visit: "We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy to save the canal. There will be no structures on the canal's border. The canals of the capital will be returned to their former state by clearing dirt and encroachment."

Earlier on Friday, DNCC began evicting illegal encroachments and cleaning the dirt in the Ramchandrapur canal. Over 1,500 volunteers from BD Clean, a voluntary organization, assisted DNCC in the day-long cleaning drive.

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam actively participated in the cleaning drive with volunteers from morning until 3pm.
