Update : 13 Jan 2024, 06:30 PM

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam announced financial assistance of Tk5,000 to each family affected by the fire that broke in the Mollabari slum, adjacent to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) gate in Tejgaon.

He also announced a financial aid of Tk10,000 for the victims with special needs.

He announced the amounts after inspecting the fire-damaged Mollabari slum area on Saturday.

The DNCC mayor said: “This is a privately owned slum. Most of the houses burnt down in the fire. We will provide blankets for the victims so they do not suffer in this severe winter. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has already arranged dry food and blankets. DNCC will provide financial assistance to the victims.”

Meanwhile, the mayor ordered the local councillors and regional executive officers to prepare the list of victims as soon as possible.

He said: “We have installed fire hydrants in the Sattala slum area and provided training to slum dwellers. Officials of all slums, markets and institutions should be trained to handle fire incidents as it takes a long time for the fire service to arrive.”

Two people were killed in the fire that broke out in the Mollabari slum on Saturday.
