Jyotirmay Sarkar Tapu, additional deputy commissioner (transport) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, passed away Thursday night.
He was a police official of the 30th BCS.
ADC Tapu died at Rajarbagh Police Hospital around 8:30pm on Thursday, Ziaul Ahsan Talukder, Deputy Commissioner (transport) confirmed the information at night.
He said that ADC Jyotirmoy Sarkar was found lying unconscious on the floor in the restroom of his office at the DMP headquarters.
Later, his colleagues rescued him and took him to Rajarbagh Police Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
He may have had a heart attack or stroke, said the official.
Senior police officials paid floral tributes to him at the Rajarbagh police line.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman, and other senior officials were present.
The home district of the DMP’s ADC is Kandapara village in Madyanagar upazila in Sunamganj district. He is survived by his wife and a minor son.
His body was taken to Sylhet at night.
According to family sources, his cremation will be completed there.
