Battery-operated rickshaw drivers have allegedly attacked and vandalized three traffic police boxes in the capital's Dhanmondi area, protesting the seizure of their vehicles.

A member of the DMP Traffic Division who was on duty at the time was beaten by the attackers and was admitted to a private hospital, said Dhanmondi police station Officer-in-Charge Parvez Islam.

Police have arrested three rickshaw drivers in connection with the incident, he said.

The incident happened after traffic police obstructed the movement of battery-operated rickshaws in the Satmasjid Road area around 4:30pm, said the OC.

In response, the rickshaw drivers gathered together and attacked three traffic boxes in the Jhigatola and Satmasjid Road areas, he added.
