Fish, meat, veggies banned at Karwan Bazar metro rail station

  • Karwan Bazar station opened to public on Sunday
  • Many in Dhaka buy groceries at Karwan Bazar
Update : 01 Jan 2024, 12:44 PM

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has banned the transport of vegetables, fish and meat from Karwan Bazar by metro rail.

The ban came after the metro rail’s Karwan Bazar and Shahbagh stations opened to the public on Sunday.

Karwan Bazar is Dhaka's biggest kitchen market, and many buy vegetables, fish, meat and other grocery items from there.

Authorities appear to be aware of it and cautioned passengers by posting a sign on the gate of the Karwan Bazar metro rail station banning the transportation of fresh vegetables, fish and meat.

Many think that the smell of fish and meat in the trains can create an unhealthy environment, which might have influenced the decision.
