The Agargaon-Motijheel section of metro rail line-6 will be inaugurated on Saturday, with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina set to initiate the event by boarding a train at Agargaon station at noon.
She will then move to Motijheel by train.
As part of the inauguration, the commercial operation of the metro rail will be temporarily suspended.
Metro rail authorities said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the MRT Northern route after visiting Motijheel. At the same time, she will unveil the plaque of MRT-5. Under MRT Line-5, 13.5km of subway and 6.5km of flyover will be constructed from Hemayetpur to Bhatara.
After the inauguration on Saturday, the metro rail will be opened again for general passengers from Sunday.
From this day, the metro rail from Uttara North to the Agargaon section will run as per the previous rules, but the movement in the Agargaon-Motijheel section will be restricted for the time being.
Metro rail operation will start on the second section of this MRT Line-6 by opening three stations first. The stations are Farmgate, Bangladesh Secretariat and Motijheel.
These three stations will be operational only for four hours at the beginning of the day.
New metro rail schedule
Starting from Sunday, the metro rail schedule will undergo changes.
In the morning, the metro rail service will be extended by one hour, with operations beginning at 7:30am instead of 8:30am.
However, the closing time for metro rail services will remain unchanged at 8:30pm.
Additionally, the metro rail will only run from Uttara North to Motijheel via Agargaon until 11:30am.
After that, it will not proceed to Motijheel, and only the Uttara North to Agargaon metro rail will operate until 8:30pm.
The fare from Uttara North and Uttara Center stations to Motijheel has been fixed at Tk100, to Secretariat Tk90 and to Farmgate Tk70.
The fare from Mirpur 10 to Motijheel is Tk60, to Secretariat Tk50 and to Farmgate Tk30.
The fare from Agargaon to Motijheel is Tk50, to Secretariat Tk40 and to Farmgate Tk20.
