The Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has detained senior BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
The BNP standing committee member was nabbed at a Gulshan house at around 12:30am on Friday, Shamsuddin Didar, a member of the BNP chairperson's press wing, told the media.
He was supposed to be taken to the DB headquarters for questioning.
Several top BNP leaders have been arrested or held in the last few days, as the party looks to intensify its movement to oust the government from power.
Law enforcement arrested four people, including BNP Dhaka North Member Secretary Aminul Haq, in Gulshan in the early hours of Thursday and detained BNP Media Cell Convenerr Jahir Uddin Swapan later in the day.
Before that came BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas and Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal’s arrest late on Tuesday, following Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s detention on Sunday morning.
