Fire service forms 5-member committee to probe Khawaja Tower fire

The Fire Service and Civil Defence has formed a five-member committee to probe the fire that broke out at the 14-storey Khawaja Tower in Dhaka’s Mohakhali on Thursday afternoon.

The committee has been asked to submit the investigation report within 15 working days by assessing the cause of the fire and damage.

Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of the fire service headquarters media cell confirmed the information on Friday.

Fire Service and Civil Defence Director (operations and maintenance) Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury will lead the committee. 

Others on the committee are - Dhaka division Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director (Member Secretary) Md Saleh Uddin; Assistant Director (Member) Md Anwarul Haque, Deputy Assistant Director of Zone-2 Md Tanharul Islam, Senior Station Officer of Tejgaon Fire Station Md Nazim Uddin Sarkar.

The fire that broke out at the 14-storey Khawaja Tower was put out after around 12 hours.

The blaze was completely doused at 8:45am on Friday.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the fire rose to three.
