Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam on Monday announced that the construction work of the gutted Mohammadpur Krishi Market will be launched from October 30.
He made this announcement in an exchange meeting with the affected traders at Souchona Community Centre after visiting the fire-damaged Mohammadpur new kitchen market (krishi market) on Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Md Atiqul Islam announced a financial assistance of TK1 crore for the affected traders and an allocation of Tk3 crore for the construction of the market.
“We have taken this decision of construction work after discussing with everyone so that traders are not affected in any way,” said the mayor.
“After that, traders will get the shop allocation according to the space of their previous shops. For the time being, your business would not be stopped, you would not be affected, that is why we have made this decision.”
But DNCC will later construct the planned multi-storied building market here. Then after giving the notice, space must be left for the construction of the market, said Atiqul to traders.
“After the construction of the new multi-storied market, you will definitely get a shop here. No worries about it.”
DNCC mayor continued: “Bangladesh will become a developed country in 2041. We do not want a shabby market in developed Bangladesh. A multi-storied market with modern facilities will be constructed here. This market will have Cineplex, children playing zone area.”
A Multipurpose shopping mall will be constructed with all types of compliance. Fire hydrants will be installed for safety. A request has been made to the market committee to form a firefighting team. In case of fire, they can take action first, he added.
“I was in America on the day of the fire. From there, I have monitored all the time. I have instructed all officers including my CEO to take appropriate action,” said the DNCC mayor.
Among others, Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, MP Md Sadek Khan also spoke at the meeting.
Meanwhile, joining over phone, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman announced the financial assistance of Tk2.3 crore for the construction of the market.
