An activist of Swechasebak League, the voluntary wing of Awami League, was stabbed to death in a factional clash in Dhaka's Darussalam area on Saturday night.
The deceased Shah Alam, 35, son of freedom fighter Syed Ali, resident of the Savar’s Mograkanda area in Dhaka.
He used to live as a tenant at Lalkuthi-2 Colony in the Darussalam area.
Police and locals said there was a longstanding dispute between former Swechasebak League central committee member Nabil Khan and former Darussalam thana unit president Mohabbat Islam over establishing dominance in the area.
Darussalam police station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Aminul Bashar said that activists from both groups locked into an altercation on Friday.
The groups again locked into clashes with sharp weapons later on, leaving Shah Alam, from the Nabil group, critically injured around 10pm, the OC said.
He was rushed to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. He breathed his last while being moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), the OC said, adding that the body was kept at DMCH morgue for autopsy.
Shah Alam's father Syed Ali has filed a murder case with the police station in this regard, the police officer said, adding that drives are on to nab the accused involved with the murder.
