Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has sought an explanation from the importer company of an organic pesticide named BTI, after it faced fraud allegations from its alleged supplier.
BTI was introduced by DNCC on August 7 for eradicating Aedes mosquito larvae.
The company, Marshal Agrovet Chemical Industries Ltd, is under scrutiny for falsely attributing the production of this pesticide to a Singapore-based company “Best Chemicals.”
After seeing media reports, Best Chemicals has announced that it has not supplied this pesticide to Bangladesh.
The company has also announced to take legal action against those who provided BTI using its name.
On August 7, DNCC first applied the Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti) pesticide as part of the ongoing Aedes mosquito control program.
DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam was present when the pesticide was used in Gulshan-2.
He said that the entire mosquito control team of DNCC’s 10 regions will be trained for the next five days and taught how to apply it.
