Capsized waterbus pulled out from Buriganga

Four passengers have been found dead after a waterbus capsized near Telghat area of Keraniganj on the Buriganga River

The waterbus, which capsized after a sand-laden bulk carrier rammed it in the Buriganga near Telghat area of Keraniganj, was pulled out of the river 12 hours after the incident.

A rescue ship, MV Rustom, dragged up the waterbus from the riverbed around 8am on Monday, according to sources at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, reports media.

Four passengers have been found dead after a waterbus capsized near Telghat area of Keraniganj on the Buriganga River. 

The incident occurred around 8:15pm on Sunday as the waterbus was en route to Telghat from Dhaka's Sadarghat. 

In addition to the four confirmed deaths, eight people have been rescued alive from the tragic incident, according to fire service officials. 

Several individuals are still missing, sources from the Sadarghat River police station had said. 

Fire Service and Civil Defence Acting Officer (Media) Shahjahan Sardar said among the rescued, four are men, three women, and a child.

It is believed that most of the passengers swam ashore as it sank near the shore.

Fire service workers have resumed their rescue operation Monday morning.
