Japan Garden City, a condominium complex in Dhaka's Mohammadpur neighbourhood, has turned into a “mosquito garden,” Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam has said.
Atiqul made the remark during a mobile court campaign aimed at preventing dengue spread at Japan Garden City on Saturday.
Upon discovering Aedes mosquito larvae in the basements of several buildings there, Atiqul said: "Japan Garden City has now transformed into a mosquito garden, resembling a deadly well."
Japan Garden City comprises 27 buildings with a total of 1,700 flats, accommodating approximately 10,000 people.
To combat the spread of dengue, the DNCC has initiated a program in 54 wards aimed at eliminating Aedes mosquitoes. This program will remain in effect until July 31. Additionally, mobile court operations, led by 10 magistrates, are being conducted in 10 areas of the DNCC.
