Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has called an emergency meeting with its top leaders in Dhaka at the party's Bangabandhu Avenue office on Saturday.
Biplab Barua, office secretary of the Awami League, said the presidents and general secretaries of all party affiliates and the party's Dhaka metropolitan units, and local lawmakers had been asked to join the meeting at 4pm.
Party insiders said Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, came to the party office on Saturday morning and was observing the situation in Dhaka along with other central leaders from there.
The Awami League second-in-command would address the media just before or after the emergency meeting, they added.
