One held following Uttara police, BNP clash
BNP leaders and activists locked into a clash with police in Uttara when the party was holding a sit-in and chanting slogans in front of Uttara BNS Bhaban on Saturday noon.
Meanwhile, a person named Mirajul Islam was detained by police in the area.
The detainee claimed to be a student and said: “I came to Dhaka from Mymensingh to attend my friend's wedding.”
As per the previously announced program, the BNP was scheduled to hold a sit-in at entrances of the capital from 11am on Saturday. However, the police have taken a strict stance as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has not granted permission for this event.
Police are conducting checks on individuals passing through the area.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Morshed of DMP's Uttara Zone said: "Permission from the DMP is mandatory to hold any program in Dhaka city.”
BNP, Awami League's counter allegation
Several Awami League leaders and activists who came to the protest said that BNP does not know how to do peace and order politics. They always try to create anarchy in the country. They have become desperate to destroy the peace of the country ahead of the elections.
“We are on the road to resist them,” they said.
Meanwhile, BNP leaders and activists claimed that they were holding a peaceful sit-in program on the side of the road according to the party program. Awami leaders and activists suddenly attacked them with batons and weapons. The police are also working on their behalf.
Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman said that BNP did not take permission to hold the sit-in program. They will not be allowed to stay here. So they have been removed from the highway.
