DGHS identifies 11 dengue hotspots in Dhaka

Six of those areas are under DSCC and the remaining are DNCC areas

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday said the number of hospitalized dengue patients is higher in 11 areas in the capital.

Six of those areas are in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the remaining are in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), said DGHS director (hospital and clinic) Md Habibul Ahsan Talukder disclosed the information at the briefing. 

The DSCC areas are – Jatrabari, Mugda, Kodomtoli, Jurain, Dhanmondi, and Basabo while the five DNCC areas are– Uttara, Mohammadpur, Mirpur, Tejgaon, and Badda.

He said that 30,685 people have been infected by dengue since January this year. Among them 18,885 patients were from Dhaka and 11,800 from outside Dhaka.

Outside Dhaka, Chittagong and Barisal divisions have detected the highest number of dengue patients.

Eleven more deaths were reported from dengue by the Directorate General of Health Services on Saturday, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 167 this year. 

The July death toll alone rose to 120, smashing the previous highest for deaths from dengue in a single month.

Previously, the deadliest month had been November 2022, when 113 people died from the disease, according to DGHS records in the public domain.
