Postgraduate Private Trainee Doctors Association has again gone on a strike to press home its demand for an increase in allowance from Tk20,000 to Tk50,000.

The doctors started sitting on the road in front of Bangladesh National Museum of the capital after 11am on Monday.

The agitating doctors said that within seven days, they want to return home with a notification.

Tk50,000 allowance is our right. We will not accept the allowance of Tk25,000, they added.

Dr Jaber Hossain, president of Postgraduate Private Trainee Doctors Association, said: “We heard yesterday (Sunday) that the allowance has been increased by Tk5,000, it is a flying news. There is no truth to this. If true, we are not satisfied with Tk25,000. We want an allowance that allows us to live comfortably with our family and finish our ongoing course smoothly.”

He said: “We wanted to have a peaceful stand today, but the way the police attacked us yesterday was not desirable in any way. The intern doctors have declared solidarity with us.”

Dr Jaber also said: "We want to discuss our demand at the table. But we are forced to take to the streets. We have been going from place to place for six months now; everywhere we have gone we have only received assurances but no proofs.”

Earlier on Sunday, they rejected the announcement of increasing their previous allowance from Tk20,000 to Tk25,000.
