Anti-Aedes drive: DSCC fines 12 offenders to tune of 1.2L

Mobile courts of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) fined12 establishments a total of Tk1.26 lakh finding larvae of Aedes mosquitoes, the dengue vector, on Sunday.

The courts led by 10 executive magistrates of the DSCC conducted the drives at 181 residences and structures in Purbo and Dakshin Goran, Kamrangichar, Islampur, Purbo Jurain and Matuail.

Of them, 12 residences and under-construction buildings were fined Tk1.26 lakh as the presence of the larvae of the Aedes mosquitoes were found during the drives there.

The magistrates also conducted special drives at 88 educational institutions and 20 other establishments including mosques and social gathering venues during the drives.

Bleaching powder was sprayed around the educational institutions and other establishments to destroy the breeding spots of the mosquitoes.

Health and conservancy management departments of the DSCC assisted the magistrates in conducting the drives.

DSCC and Dhaka North City Corporation intensified their drives led by magistrates to destroy the breeding spots of the Aedes mosquito.

Over 100 people have died from the mosquito-borne disease in the country this year so far.
