Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will officially inaugurate the test run of Agargaon to Motijheel section of metro rail on Friday.
As part of this, a train was run experimentally from Agargaon to Motijheel section on Wednesday night.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited Deputy General Manager Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the information on Thursday.
He said that Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will officially inaugurate the test run from Agargaon station at 4 pm.
As part of this, a train was run on a trial basis on Wednesday night from Agargaon to Motijheel section of the metro rail to check whether the line is working properly.
According to DMTCL sources, almost 90% of the seven stations of this route have already been completed.
Of these three stations, Farmgate, Shahbagh and Motijheel, about 97% of the work has been completed.
Test run of Agargaon-Motijheel section will start on Friday. If the test run is successful then the trial run will start.
After that, passenger movement will start in full swing from October.
However, during the first week, passengers will board at Farmgate, Shahbagh and Motijheel stations.
The stations on the Agargaon to Motijheel section are - Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, TSC, Secretariat and Motijheel.
Presently, from Sunday to Thursday, Uttara North Station to Agargaon Station metro train operation time is from 8am to 8pm.
Of this, from 8am to 11am Peak Hour-Headway 10 minutes, Off Peak Hour - Headway 15 minutes from 11am to 4pm. From 4:10pm to 8pm Peak Hour-Headway 10 minutes.
But Saturday Headway from 8am to 11am Off Peak Hour-Headway 12 minutes, from 11am to 8pm Peak Hour-Headway 10 minutes.
Besides, the weekly holiday is Friday.
For the convenience of passengers, the operating hours of Dhaka metro rail are being extended by half an hour during night time, effective from Saturday.
However, initially only MRT pass or Rapid Pass holders will get this facility, authorities said.
According to a notification, two trains will start their journey from Agargaon station and will stop at each station to reach Uttara North metro station at 8:15pm and 8:30pm, respectively.
Single-trip tickets cannot be used on these two trains.
On December 28, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country's first elevated metro rail service, setting a milestone in the country's communication history.
This 21.26km long metro rail will reach Kamalapur from Uttara North in just 40 minutes with stops at 17 stations.
Metro train has 24 sets of six coaches. Each metro train has a maximum passenger carrying capacity of 2,308 and a capacity of 60,000 passengers per hour and 5000,000 passengers per day.
