Update : 17 Nov 2021, 06:35 PM

Residents of Korail slum continued to show enthusiasm for the Covid-19 vaccine on the second day of the vaccine campaign in the area on Wednesday.

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) were prepared to vaccinate 15,000 people on Tuesday and 20,000 people on the second day. However, the vaccine was being provided as per demand.

“The center is open from 9am to 5pm, but we have been instructed that if there is a high demand, it will remain open until 6.30 pm. There are 125 health staff and volunteers working in 25 booths,”  Brig Gen Md Zobaidur Rahman, chief health officer of the DNCC, told Dhaka Tribune.

"Nobody returned home without getting vaccinated on the first day. On the second day of our campaign, we aim to vaccinate 20,000 people in this slum. Rest depends on how many people come to get vaccinated,” he added.

On the second day, it was seen that the slum residents were patiently standing in lines with photocopies of their NID cards. People without NID cards were getting vaccinated with copies of their birth certificates.

Md Zobaidur Rahman said the campaign would be conducted on Fridays and Saturdays as well.
