Moni Begum was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he added.
She later succumbed to her injuries at around 12:15pm, the doctors on duty said.
The driver of the bus, named Shahin, has been detained and the vehicle seized, Inspector Aslam Uddin Molla said.
Moni Begum's husband, Badsha Mia, said: "There used to be a footbridge in that area, but it was demolished, so pedestrians are forced to take risks when crossing the road," he lamented.
