Update : 14 Jun 2023, 04:24 PM

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh claimed that the waterlogging of Dhaka city has reduced from 70% to 10% due to timely measures.

He told this to reporters after the inauguration of the Shamsabad sports ground in Bangshal of the capital on Wednesday.

He said: “There will be no more flooding in Dhaka city in the coming season. Even in 2020, if there was a little rain, the city would have been flooded. From there we reduced the waterlogging to 10%.”

“Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operative (LGRD) Minister Md Tazul Islam handed over the canals and drains to us under the direction of the prime minister. Then we developed the necessary infrastructure by identifying 136 places. As a result, except for some isolated places, there is no waterlogging anymore,” the mayor added.

The mayor said: “We have some works undergoing which will ensure that there will be no more flooding from next season.”
