The postgraduate doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) laid siege to the vice chancellor's office on Tuesday to press home their demand to increase the monthly allowance.
They started to take positions at the BSMMU premises at 10:30am, and a scuffle ensued after they tried to meet VC Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed.
The agitated doctors voiced their discontent through various slogans, emphasizing that the monthly allowance should be adjusted to be revised based on the current market condition.
In this regard, VC Ahmed said he informed the doctors that the financial allowance depends on the government.
“After discussing the matter with the government within the next seven days, the funds will be distributed among the postgraduate students,” he added.
