Update : 06 Jun 2023, 08:18 PM

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam has said the DNCC will plant trees on roads and sidewalks within its jurisdiction.

The mayor was speaking while inaugurating the DSCC's 200,000 tree-planting program at Mayor Anisul Haque Road in Dhaka's Tejgaon area on Tuesday.

The mayor inaugurated the program by planting some saplings.

He said: "We do not want to leave any space empty.”

The mayor added that different types of trees – flower, fruit and medicinal – will be planted in different areas.

“There are no birds in the city. We are planting corkwood in consultation with the Forest Department as birds like its fruit very much.”

Cleaning, greening and feeding – these three things will be taken into account when planting trees, he added.

"Sobuje bash, baro mash (Living in greenery in all 12 months) – we started planting trees with this slogan. I call upon the residents of the city to plant trees in the empty spaces in front of their houses. I want to draw Rajuk's attention. At least one tree in every house' – this initiative should be implemented by Rajuk immediately."
