A case has been lodged against over 500 BNP leaders, including the party's central executive committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury, for vandalizing Awami League office during Friday's clash in Dhaka's Keraniganj.
Local Awami League activist Sumon Mia filed the case at the Keraniganj model police station on Saturday afternoon, accusing the BNP leaders of vandalizing the Awami League office and assaulting its party members.
Confirming the matter, Keraniganj model police station Officer-in-Charge Mamunur Rashid said the case has been filed citing the names of BNP executive committee members Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury and Haji Nazim Uddin Master and BNP Dhaka district unit President Khandaker Ashfaq for allegedly instigating the vandalism on the Awami League office and attack on its leaders.
“Additionally, over 500 unknown party members have also been implicated in the case,” he added.
In the aftermath of the clash, police arrested nine BNP party members on Friday night.
On Saturday afternoon, they were produced before court seeking remand.
Keraniganj model police station Inspector (Investigation) Ashikur Rahman, also the investigating officer of the case, said that efforts are underway to arrest the accused individuals named in the case.
At least 15 people were injured in a clash between the ruling Awami League and BNP in Dhaka's Keraniganj upazila on Friday.
Witnesses said the altercation began when BNP leaders threw brickbats at the Awami League's South Keraniganj office during a protest rally at around 11am.
