A real estate businessman allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Dhaka's Gulshan area on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as SM Zahidur Rahman, 48, son of Osman Gani of Dighlia upazila's Senhati village, Khulna.
The incident happened on Sunday morning.
The deceased's relatives rescued him in critical condition and brought him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where on duty doctors declared him dead.
Gulshan police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shakir Hasan Sourav said: "The deceased hanged himself with a rope in the fan on Sunday morning.”
"He was a real estate businessman. He is physically ill for three years due to huge losses in his business. He was receiving treatment in different places of the country and abroad," he added
The body was handed over without a post-mortem following a request of the family.
